post interview reflection

How do you feel the interview went overall?  i felt that it went well. I was a bit awkward, but i attribute that to nerves. I think next time when i prepare i need to spend some time calming down before hand. I think I was able to give concise and conversational answers. How did you prepare for the interview? I read over an article on the top 11 interview questions and answers to give from the AOTA website. I also conversed with my peers and suggested we tell each other how we think they should answer. It helps to have an outsiders perspective when looking at yourself What went differently than you expected? I was prepared for the interview question to be more centered towards my strengths and weaknesses rather than what I look for in a career. I was nervous about the idea of having to give an evaluation of myself. What's something you would change if you could go through this process again (or something you'll do differently when you're in a real-life interv

OCP- sex therapy lecture

What were the key takeaway points from the guest lecture today?  This lecture was very interesting to me. While sex is still not an open topic for everyone, I find it liberating when we are able to have an open discussion about it. There are so many myths and fears people have about their bodies and sexual exploration. I learned things today that I never knew were actually normal. For instance, men and women generally have different paths to reaching an orgasm. Usually a man can become aroused and then initiate sexual relations. Woman however usually need to be around through sexual relations. They most often initiate sex through a cognitive thought. Another thing I enjoyed to hear is that we are more normal than we think. We don’t talk about sex so we think if it isn’t like the movies then we are doing something wrong. I think OT fits in well with sexual therapy because it teaches us to embrace the grey, and this lecture opened my eyes to the fact that sex is not as black an

Diving and Community Lecture

What were the key takeaway points from the guest lecture today?  It's important to know the limitations of the driver so you can help them adapt safely. Safety is the number one priority. No one will be happy when told they are no longer able to drive keep that in mind when trying to win them over don’t patronize them , try to understand their feeling of loss and relate that to them Driving is the hardest thing you'll do in your day  It has physical demands as well as requiring cognitive and executive function Problems that can interfere with driving are: Impulsivity, aggression, physical limitations, limitations in quick decision making, and more hand controls vehicles require pushing to control the breaks and pulling to accelerate these vehicles are constructed this way in anticipation of G-force if you were to pull when stopping the force of the car slowing would interfere with your ability

Leadership Glyf

Looking at my glyf that i made in my first year of OT school was a crazy moment. I feel like I'm light years ahead of where i was then. It feels like I'm at a point I didn't think I would ever make it to. I partially expected my glyf from the other day to look different. The only difference was the face shape. This represented thinking a leader was born or raised. I said before they were born leaders because i believe all leaders need to have something inside them that sparks the fire of leadership. I still feel that way but i decided to change my answer because even if you are born with a talent, you wont develop that unless you nurture and encourage those qualities. Overall, I haven't changed much in terms of my beliefs on leadership, but at least I know that my beliefs are backed up this time due to my experiences throughout school.

OCP Nutrition and Aging Reflection

What were the key takeaway points from the guest lecture today?  Proper nutrition is a major determinant of the aging process Nutritional needs don't always work with the client's budget/ time frame Geriatric populations absorb less nutrients from food than younger people Muscle mass is important to protect from injury and illness Describe two occupational therapy interventions based on the topic. Food insecurity education/resources for those in low SES or food deserts Provide a map with locations of foodbanks, grocery stores, and other areas that can assist the patients in attending health low cost meals. Help the patients create cook books to take home that include healthy and low cost recipes Work with an older patient individually on creating a meal plan based off of recipes that provide feelings of nostalgia. A problem for older adults is that they may lose their appetite. Nostalgia is a strong
